Windsor Forest High Student Receives Cousin Itt Award for Flight Training
Updated

Virginia Fogleman, a Junior from Windsor Forest High School, received the Cousin ITT Flight Training Award through Thrill of the First Flight Georgia and Savannah Aviation on June 9, 2025. The Cousin Itt award is named for Matt Marshburn, a U.S. military veteran and aviation professional who passed away in 2022. Cousin Itt was the stage name he used when performing in a local band.  He wanted to share his passion for flying and love for all things aviation with young people to bring awareness to the personal and career opportunities it offers.

In 2018, he founded Cuz Itt Matters, a program designed to give at-risk and underserved youth in our area the opportunity to experience flying for themselves. That dream and his legacy continues to live on through the generosity of friends and supporters. The Cousin Itt award provides 16 hours of flying instruction provided to one Chatham County awardee through the “Thrill of the First Flight” program.  Matt’s wife Mary Marshburn presented Virginia with the award.

The Thrill of the First Flight’s (TOTFF) Flight Training Awards are designed to provide underserved and aspiring young aviators with the opportunity to pursue their passion for aviation by covering the costs of initial flight training. This award aims to remove financial barriers and expand access to aviation education, fostering the next generation of skilled pilots, aerospace professionals, and industry leaders.

The award supports high school students who demonstrate a strong commitment to aviation and academic potential, ensuring that passion and dedication—not financial constraints—determine their ability to achieve their dreams of flight. Whether recipients aim for private pilot certification, commercial aviation careers, or aerospace engineering, this program provides them with a foundation for success in the aviation industry.  Congratulations Virginia!
